Lyris Quartet – “Intimate Letters” Project

The Lyris Quartet is one of the most exciting ensembles to emerge from the LA music scene in the past decade.  A regular fixture on multiple chamber music series around town, Lyris is equally at home with the tried and true warhorses of the string quartet repertoire as they are with the most cutting edge, experimental music of the present day.

This fall, Lyris is heading to Germany to record a new album for ARS Produktion that encapsulates this broad scope of styles. The centerpiece of this album will be Leoš Janáček’s second string quartet, “Intimate Letters”, a programmatic tale of the composer’s obsession with his young “friend”, Camilla. We will also have four brand new commissions, written byBruce Broughton, Billy Childs, Peter Knell and Kurt Rohde, all inspired by the story of the Intimate Letters and Janáček’s unrequited love.  Highlights of this project in 2016 will include a CD release concert in Los Angeles where we will perform the world premieres of these new works.

We’d like to invite you to join the Lyris Quartet family and help us bring this album to the world.  Your generous donation will help us cover the cost of:

Commission fees for our wonderful composers
CD Production
Venue rental and production costs for our world premiere/CD release concert
Marketing and publicity materials

Please join us on this journey to make this new album come to life!
