The Other Hand
About The Project
This LGBT horror film shows the reunion between two women – former lovers and current homophobes – who are trying to understand the mysterious disappearance of one woman’s husband. Their meeting is tainted by a supernatural force driven to create chaos, who controls the women and compels them to violence. The women cannot detect this presense, and instead experience the most human of faults – a loss of control. Neither woman realizes the true culprit before their meeting turns deadly.
The script for “The Other Hand” was inspired by the location. Rachel Woods, co-writer and director, has access to cabin by a lake in Massachusetts. It’s small, isolated, just a little run-down – a perfect horror movie set.
When developing this script from the location, the writers AJ and Rachel focused on creating a genuine feeling of horror for the audience without relying on tropes. Guided by masterpieces such as Rosemary’s Baby, The Others and It Follows, Rachel crafted two dynamic and humanly flawed characters. Recalling a history of mental illness, AJ invented a supernatural monster that plays on a fundamental human fear: who is in control when you’re not? Short and sweet, this script is hauntingly effective.
