Timmy’s Pies is an artisan pie company based in West London. They have been trading for 5 years and hold listings in the best shops and delis in the country, including Selfridges, Partridges and Harvey Nichols. The company has won 9 Great Taste Awards in the past 4 years and has a strong market and wholesale business, as well as a rapidly growing on-line sales operation. Timmy’s Pies produces handmade pies, sausage rolls, quiches and scotch eggs from their SALSA-certified kitchen. Everything is made from scratch using only free-range, British meat and game, and baked to a seasonal menu to take advantage of the fantastic ingredients the UK has to offer. If they wouldn’t serve it on their table at home, they won’t put it in their pies. Having started life from a market stall, their pies are as good cold as they are hot, a great selling point with wholesale customers. Pies come in both regular and mini, 3-bite sizes and can even be ordered on-line, delivered right to your door via their Pies By Post service.
The UK pie market is growing, especially the “posh pie” sector as people place more importance on the provenance, traceability and quality of the food they buy. Timmy’s Pies bake to a seasonal menu, using only free-range, British meat and game and absolutely no nonsense. New ranges of sausage rolls and quiches have kept sales high through the summer months, and a range of mini pies has opened the business up to the catering and events markets. Online sales is a key growth area, and their unique pie personalisation service “say it in shortcrust” has proven hugely popular, especially on Valentine’s and Father’s Day.
Timmy’s Pies has a strong existing wholesale market and two direct-to-customer channels via markets and online sales to a dedicated group of pie-fans. Trade shows have generated sales and leads into new markets, including contract catering and transport. Profits are volume dependent, so capitalisation on the existing sales pipeline plus generation of new sales may lead to ever increasing profitability. New sales will come from a dedicated sales approach to wholesale clients, expansion of the online gifting market and range expansion including “shelf-ready” products. In this way, a doubling of turnover over the first 12 months may be readily achievable.
Timmy’s Pies assumes a 3-5 year exit window for investors. Most likely via sale to a trade buyer looking to enter the premium end of the market. Early-stage talks have taken place with a large pie brand looking to produce a premium product, and although preliminary, shows potential.
