Flour de Lis Bakery is owned and operated by a mother/daughter team—me and my mom, Juli.
After spending my summers home from college working in local bakeries, I attended the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone where I graduated with my Associates Degree in Baking and Pastry in 2011. Over the course of my career I have worked in bakeries and restaurants in Louisville, Chicago, Napa and San Francisco.
From high-end retail to stay-at-home-mom to first grade teacher to bakery owner, Juli’s career path has definitely kept her on her toes. She taught her daughters an appreciation for good food and meals shared together at the kitchen table from a young age. She was my first instructor in the kitchen, teaching me how to make Christmas cookies, banana bread, and eventually how to ice a cake. Now she graciously lets me teach her a thing or two in the kitchen.
Flour de Lis Bakery was born in April of 2013 when I decided I was ready to return to my hometown of Louisville and realize my long time dream of starting my own business. I recognized a need in Louisville for a locally-owned bakery that focuses on using local and quality ingredients. Flour de Lis uses local flour, eggs, dairy, fruit, herbs… The small batch, hand made desserts are inspired by classic southern desserts and nostalgic flavors.
Starting small with 2-3 farmer’s markets a week, the bakery now serves as a wholesaler to several coffee shops, caterers and specialty food stores around town. Flour de Lis also has a steady special order and wedding cake business.
The next step to grow the business is to open a retail location where customers can pop in on a whim to get a treat, a cup of coffee and some face time with the owners. From day one, customers have been asking “Where are you?” and now, finally, there is a good answer! Come see us soon at 1759 Bardstown Rd.
Flour de Lis looks forward to serving the Highlands (and greater Louisville) community as a go-to spot for something sweet to celebrate, to indulge, to motivate, or just because!
Our new storefront location is perfect! …Except that it doesn’t have a kitchen yet. So we are having to build out an entire commercial kitchen. This loan will cover the cost of the electrical work which includes updating the wiring, installing lighting, and wiring the espresso machine
