A Hong Kong Triathlete getting to the professional level for local and international triathlon races in 2016
Hi. I am Tonie Yip from Hong Kong as an amateur triathlete now but will be upgraded to the professional level as well as my racing experience. Spread out here! Recently, I am qualified as a member of the age group triathlete from my affiliated triathlon club!!Then, I have been selected to represent the team in Hong Kong, at any ITU or ASTC Triathlon and ironman Races in 2016.
My goal is simple. I just want to become an elite triathlete as well as world class level. I would be extremely grateful for any financial assistance to help me travel and compete the race and seize an opputunity to be qualified by Hong Kong Regional Triathlon Squad.
I have completed in the ASTC Triathlon Asian Cup in Hong Kong 2015 in October 2015 and go ahead to racing around the world in 2016, dreaming to win a gold, silver or bronze in swim, bike and run.
Why support me? Here is my story:
My road of sport began when I was 8 years old, I started swim training with an independent team at a swimming club but I got failed to be qualified by Hong Kong Regional Swimming Squad due to my educational problem. But fortunately I won some medals at some local district swimming competitions at all. After graduate from the university in 2007, I suffered mental problem from my work. My road to triathlon began in this moment by competing in my first Aquathlon race (5km run, 500m swim) and get the best result! (500m swim in 6:30mins, 5km run in 19:00 mins)
However, one thing I got pleasent that I met the former Hong Kong elite triathlete called Daniel Lee Chi Wo (Chinese: 李致和) at the local Aquathlon race in 2010. Daniel told me that the lifetime for triathlon was different from other sports. As I was qualified as a Regional affiliated team athlete, no matter thing will be suffered from any risks! My first road bike that I have been racing with is 23 years old. Even though I have been successful with it, but unfortunately was destroyed during 2014 Hong Kong ASTC Triathlon Asian Cup and I got heavy injured. Then I got lost the insufficient result from the disqualification! I am in need of a more updated, triathlon bike. Along with purchasing a new bike comes a required bike fit to make sure I am as efficient as possible racing!!
Regular training: Early morning or night swims 2 times per week, running 4-5 days/week, biking 1 day/week and topped off with strength and conditioning sessions. I also had some big life changes, an unexpected career move resulted in some heavy expenses including a change in accommodation and transport.
Race experience:
“An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets.”– Emil Zatopek, but they sure do need it to eat, train and travel. Unfortunately, I am an sad triathlete due to lack of good assistance with expenditure for basic needs. That’s why I almost need your kindly contributions and cares to enrich my meaningful athletic life!
My goal is simple. I want to win more national and international titles with exceeded experience and develop into a top class international athlete. This is my dream and with the support of individuals and organisations like yours, I can try and I can succeed.
Triathlon is a demanding sport both in terms of time and financial commitments. Unfortunately in Hong Kong there are little or no government grants for our sport. An aspiring athlete has very little assistance with expenditure on training, coaching, camps, equipment, travel, accommodation and competition costs.
The main fund related on this campaign will spend with expenditure on general training, coaching, overseas camps, equipment, travel, accommodation and competition costs.
For example, a typical Asian race will involve the following expenses:
Race entry cost ~€100
Elite/pro license cost ~ €600 per year
Return flights to and from my destination for me (€200+) my bike (€100) and 1 piece of luggage (US$50). ~ €350
Accommodation for at least two nights at my race destination ~ US$70per night
Food and costs involved in getting prepped and ready for the race ~ US$70
A typical European race will involve the following expenses:
Race entry cost ~€150
Elite/pro license cost ~ €600 per year
Return flights to and from my destination for me (€200+) my bike (€100) and 1 piece of luggage(€50)~ €350
Accommodation for at least two nights at my race destination ~ €70 per night
Food and costs involved in getting prepped and ready for the race ~ €70
Total cost ~ €650 per race
Ironman Taiwan 2016 Race:
Race entry cost: €550 – 1100
Flight: €1500 with all checked bags and bike
Accommodation for 7 days in a basic apartment: €500
I have planned to compete in following races or events in 2016:
2016 Hatsukaichi ASTC Triathlon Asian Champioships (April 2016)
Hong Kong Festival of Sport Sprint Triathlon 2016 (May 2016)
2016 New Taipei City ASTC Triathlon Asian Champioships (June 2016)
2016 Hong Kong ASTC Sprint Triathlon Cup (Purposed in October 2016)
2016 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Chicago (Coming soon)
IRONMAN taiwan 2016 – Penghu, Taiwan (Oct 2, 2016)
IRONMAN Malaysia – Langkawi, Malaysia (Coming Soon)
New World International Triathlon 2016 (November 2016)
To complete all these races or events qualified by ITU and ASTC, an endurance power is very important for me as a serious performance. Therefore, I need to spend for the opputunity to represent Hong Kong. Any contributions from you would be so gratefully received and help me to go ahead for international events!
I would like to raise up to €25,000 to assist with the next two years of racing, which will help me compete internationally and go on the rapid progression I made. I will also continue my regular Aquathlon, Duathlon and short course swim and open watet swim, too.
This is a huge dream for me to compete on a world class level. I ask that you please support me by donating and sharing this campaign with your friends any you! Your contribution will go directly to my training budget and help defray the cost of my training! I will keep everyone updated on the progress and I hope to continue to make all of you proud!
