The Darling Music Experience Presents:
Indie Opera
The future of classical music theatre. Support a young South African
opera company which takes opera into a new era
The Abduction from the Seraglio / die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail follows the success in Darling and at the Klein Karoo Klassique festival last year and in London this year of Mozart’s Don Giovanni alla breve, an 80 minute adaption which captured the essence of the story in a delightful script with some of the most catching arias.
The opera will be again under the musical direction of accomplished accompanist Lisa Engelbrecht; it will be directed by Francesco Nassimbeni, a young theatrical director of inspiring creativity and ability.
Maudee Montierre, who enchanted audiences in London as Donna Anna, will play Konstanze, one of a pair of girls abducted by a slimy pimp and his thugs and must be rescued in a story of mistaken identities, dancing girls and undercover agents.
The others in the outstanding cast are Athenkosi Hoyi (Blondchen), Thando Mjandana (Belmonte), Tswakele Tshabalala (Pedrillo), Garth Deport (Osmin) and Jason Potgieter (Pasha).
With paired-down production costs which include minimal props and costumes, one piano and five brilliantly talented opera students who can sing as well as they can act and have comedic sense of timing, the opera still needs funding for staging and for a contemporary script that resonates in the South Africa of today.
