My brother Faris and I played our last show together on January 16, 1999. The recording sessions that would later comprise the Nourallah Brothers CD came to an end too. A musical partnership that began as teenagers was basically finished.
At that point I had some sort of meltdown. There were too many emotional failures & disappointments piled high in my skeleton closet & I couldn’t take anymore. I thought I’d quit music altogether & find peace at last. When I eventually came back to music after my self-imposed “retirement” I’d come to the realization that I’d been avoiding the one thing I knew I did best. My entire adult life I’d hidden behind the jet engine roar of a band. Something about my son’s impending birth in 2003 jolted me into the thought that if I happened to accidentally be hit by a bus or a falling piano I would’ve died having never made the one good album I always felt I had in me. The OBVIOUS one I’d ignored making all these years. So I set out to make the record that would eventually be called Polaroid.
Eleven years after Polaroid’s release Palo Santo Records has lovingly remastered it for vinyl for the very 1st time. In 2004 it only came out on CD. I’ve written extensive liner notes about the making of the record & we’ve included all the lyrics as well as some of my favorite photos circa 2003. This is a beautifully well-done re-issue release I’m very proud of.
