My name is Stephane Domingues. I am a 31 years old photographer based in Paris, France.“Being 30 years old in the world” is a project that aims at decoding what it means to be a 30-year-old in different countries around the world, trying to understand similarities and differences of one single generation across the globe. Over the last 15 months, I have met, photographed and interviewed more than 60 people on the 5 continents to share a slice of their lives.
The goal of this Kickstarter campaign is to fund the creation of a beautiful hardcover book to share these amazing stories with you. The book will feature 30 portraits from 30 countries and YOU, kickstarter backers will choose the portraits that will be featured on the book.
This project was born while I started to plan my 15-month trip around the world. I really wanted to give a purpose to my trip, on a cultural and social ground.
Getting to the 30’s is quite an important event in our life…So I decided to go out there and find out what are the differences and similarities in the 30 year old generation throughout the world.
Is it the same to be a 30YO in France, Tanzania, Vietnam, Argentina or New Zealand? How donationality, culture, living environment… define our own identity?
How does our everyday life look like? What are our values? What is important for us? How do we analyze our past? Our present? And our future? How do we see our country? And theworld we are living in?
So far, this amazing journey took me to 25 countries, located on the 5 continents, and enabled me to meet and share the life of more than 60 people aged between 29 and 35. They live in big cities or in small remote villages. All from different background and culture… with their own stories and their own vision.
Over the next few months, I plan to go meet and interview more people from 5 other countries in Europe and North Africa.
Over these last 15 months, I have documented these amazing stories on my blog.
To be able to compare lifestyles and visions, every single person was asked the same interview which included questions about past, present and future. But the main point was to share authentic moments of their daily life and catch these with my camera.
This experience enabled me to see very contrasted lifestyles such as this one:
During my trip many websites from all over the world wrote articles about my projects in many different languages : English, French, Indian, Chinese, Finish, Bulgarian, Spanish, Slovak, Portuguese…
The book will be a beautiful coffee table art book featuring 30 inspiring illustrated storiesof real men and women from 30 countries across the globe.
