Successfully Self Publish Book # 2

The story of the project

G’Day Everyone, My name is Ian McIntosh. Last year, thanks to the help of many generous people through crowd funding, I was able to self publish my first ever children’s story, Watch Out For The Bickie Monster.

Not only was I able to get my book printed, but because of your generous support amazingly more than 300 copies of Watch Out For The Bickie Monster were purchased by you and donated on your behalf to schools, hospitals, libraries and charities right across Australia.

On a personal note, my goal was to print and sell 1000 copies and use the experience to help and encourage others to step out and achieve their dreams. Well so far so good. To date I have sold around 700 copies. I have been a top 3 finalist for a literary award, been a guest author at a writers festival, been a feature author for book week 2015, visiting schools, day cares and kindergartens to read to children and talk to them about becoming an author and I have been able to help and encourage many others along the way to kick start their dreams of writing a book.

Now for the next step. Book number 2 is almost ready to go. It’s called Silly Socks, Sleepy Socks. “Silly socks, Sleepy Socks” is an entertaining look at the day in the life of children told through the eyes of their socks.
The story is most suited to 3-5 year old kids however will be enjoyed by people of all ages who have ever worn a pair of socks. The story has been amazingly illustrated by an Australian artist, Emma Stuart, who was the illustrator of my first book. It has been professionally proof read, and will be printed in Australia by an Australian owned printing company.

This year I am once again asking you to partner with me to help cover the cost of printing the book and to help me get as many copies of Silly Socks, Sleepy Socks as we can into schools, hospitals, libraries and charities Australia wide. You can help out by pledging to pre buy copies of the book through my crowd funding project.

The book is due for release in late November so I only have around 4 weeks to raise the money I need to get the book printed.

To pledge, please click on the option of your choice. By doing so, you will be helping to get a quality book that has been written, illustrated and printed in Australia into the hands of thousands of kids and will be a part of encouraging a love of reading in young children.

Thanks for your support!

How the funds will be used

The funds will be used entirely to have 1000 copies of the book printed by an Australian owned book printing company. Any money raised above the target amount will be used to help promote and launch the book and to get more copies into schools, charities, libraries and hospitals around the country.

The book is 36 pages plus the cover.
It will be printed as follows:

Cover: CMYK 2 sides, Matt Cello 1 side. Pages: CMYK throughout
Stock: Cover: 300gsm Satin, Pages: 150gsm Satin
Finishing: Perfect Bound

The cost of printing includes everything above and a pre production proof where I can make a final check for any changes that need to be made or for any previously unnoticed mistakes. (it has been proof read by a professional editor and proof reader.)

Once I give the go ahead it will take approximately 4 weeks to receive the books. Once I have a delivery date I can begin to organize launches, press releases, interviews etc and kick off big time with my marketing plan.

Don’t forget that by supporting me, you will also be helping to encourage others to step out and achieve their dreams.

Some of my other work

I successfully self published my first children’s story, Watch Out For The Bickie Monster and after 11 months have sold around 700 copies. Watch Out For The Bickie Monster was a top 3 finalist for the 2015 NQ Arts Awards in writing and publication. It was also the number 1 selling children’s story at Angus And Robertson Bookstore in Townsville for December 2014 to February 2015.
Since releasing Watch Out For The Bickie Monster I have been invited to be a guest author at Savannah Writers Festival and was sought after for story time sessions and author talks in Townsville schools and kindergartens for Book Week 2015. To find out more, you can go to https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ian-McIntosh-Childr… to check out what I have been up to over the last several months.

Because I have done this before, there are no specific challenges I face for completing this project. I do need to raise the money for the cost of printing though. Your support to do that would be greatly appreciated and would again help to buy copies that will be donated to local schools, hospitals, libraries and charities right around Australia. Thanks for being a part of the journey!
