Conceivable Future is a women-led network of Americans bringing awareness to the threat climate change poses to childbearing, and demanding an end to US fossil fuel subsidies. We believe this country can’t take meaningful steps to mitigate the changing climate without severing ties with the industry most responsible. We also see a great need to build moral power for climate action, and we believe that telling the stories of climate change’s impact on our reproductive decisions will bring public perception of the crisis from “over there” in science, economics, and politics into the heart of our daily lives.
We believe that telling and hearing stories about reproductive choices disrupted by climate change will be a radicalizing experience for young adults, particularly women. Organizing through these stories will help us build the internal conviction and public moral authority to demand that our government take the basic common-sense step of ending fossil fuel subsidies as a renewed commitment to the unborn next generation.
This is a critical moment in building our project: we’ve gotten as far as we can on our own savings, and we won’t be able to apply for larger grants until we’ve established a fiscal sponsor. In order to keep our momentum going, we are raising money for autumn 2015 events, and current and future development of our website, where we house stories from people who are struggling with the decision of whether or not to have children under the specter of climate change.
