My name is Ali and I am a medical student. Working with teenagers in my rotations and using my own life experiences, I have come to realise that as adults and especially as healthcare professionals, we are not reaching out to younger people in our community who are caught in between draconian anti-drug laws and the growing prevalance of legal highs.
I propose to develop a friendly native app which will serve as a quick reference point for our smartphone savvy teens who can use it in social circumstances to look up unfamiliar substances they hear of, come across or are offered.
There’s no social worker or healthcare professional you can call on when you at your friends party and someone offers you some green herb-like weed to eat.
It is imperative to note that this app will primarily be used to inform the user of the name(s), legal status and health effects of the drug in a non-judgmental manner.
As a student, I need some help with this and I hope you partake in this journey in helping our young people make informed choices. After all, they are the future!
