The Bird Walk is located on the East Lake of the Twin Lakes on Shoreline Drive West (Hwy 179) in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. This location is a stop on the North Carolina Birding Trail and the new viewing platform offers a place to take in the beautiful scenery and see many species of birds.
The NCBT website advises bird watchers to check the trees on the East Lake during the daytime for roosting Wood Storks in summer. Black-crowned Night Herons, White Ibis, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Green Herons all roost on the lake during their respective seasons. On the West Lake there is a big daytime roost of wading birds, including Wood Storks. American Alligators can be seen sunning on the banks.
Sunset Vision members previously donated an informational sign which describes the various birds seen on the Lakes. The group would now like to donate a set of binoculars designed for viewing nature and is creating this project to raise the necessary funds. When the project is fully funded, your donation will be provided to the Town of Sunset Beach to purchase and install the binoculars.
