Hi there,
We’re here to try and raise money for the Remexio Secondary School in Timor-Leste (East Timor).
At the moment the school has no computers, and we’re hoping to change that next year with the help of your kind donations.
A bit of background for you – the mountain village of Remexio lies about 30-40km from the capital of Dili. It has a small population, but serves as the centre of a sub-district. The secondary school is the only secondary school in the sub-district, meaning many students travel from other smaller villages to learn.
With no computers at school, the students in Remexio are at a major disadvantage. Nearly all of the students we spoke with talked about continuing study at university. The problem is students are expected to know how to use computers for their work at university.
It unfortunately has led to many students withdrawing from their university studies, as the combination of trying to learn their course information as well as how to use a computer from scratch proved too much.
By purchasing computers for the secondary school, students will gain valuable knowledge in computer skills. Teachers will have access to current information and resources. Computer skills will increase opportunities in further studies and jobs.
Qualified computer engineers have volunteered to facilitate a training program for teachers and students. The local telecommunications company will provide free wifi for the school.
All donations will go directly to the purchase of computers. Allowing students to further their education and make positive contributions to wonderful Timor Leste.
