This is the launch of Floating Opera New York, a company that has four women at its core. We are: Isabel Milenski (Founder and Artistic Director), Jian Jung (Set Designer), Jeanette Yew (Lighting Designer) and Christina Bullard (Costume Designer). We have created critically acclaimed work together for nearly a decade, and after these many collaborations, we knew it was the moment to form our own company!
The funds being raised are to make possible our inaugural production: Debussy’s Pelleas and Melisande, which will take place on the glorious and highly atmospheric barge, Lehigh Valley No.79 in Red Hook. She’s a beauty, and an amazing venue for this symbolist tale. The production features some of New York’s most talented singers: Christopher Herbert as Pelleas, Sidney Outlaw as Golaud and Aude Cardona as Melisande, Jazmin DeRice as Genevieve and Steven Fredericks as Arkel. It will be conducted and played on the piano by Eric Kramer.
Our production team has been working away on sets and costume designs as the cast is deep in their preparation. We are all so excited to bring to audiences a production like you have never had the chance to experience…on the water, to the creaking of hundred year-old walls of one of the only surviving railroad barges of its era, born two years before the death of Debussy.
These funds go to paying our artists, to rehearsal and performance space, and piano rental in addition to sets, costumes, and lights.
Please donate! Any amount you are able to give will be a tremendous help.
