Working at a job that pays well, provides benefits and a nice retirement package for 20 or 30 years, is NOT the legacy I want to leave.
I am now choosing to live my life by the following quote by Mahatma Gandhi: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
I am volunteering in India, where a 1/3 of the world’s poor are located. India is a place where cultural, political and economic challenges disproportionately impact girls and women. Empowering girls and women through improved access to education, healthcare and resources strengthens the entire community. When girls stay in school it creates improved economic opportunities and reduces the rates of teen pregnancy and child marriages. Women are not second class citizens. When women are provided with economic opportunities, it translates into stronger, healthier families and communities.
I have been lucky enough to live my life in a country that promotes women, enables and encourages women, and allows young girls to thrive. I want to help girls and women in India discover their inner strength and self-worth. I want girls and women to become self-sufficient and resilient. Every girl who is empowered will grow up to become a strong, positive role model for future generations to emulate.
I want to be a part of THAT legacy. Your donation will allow me the opportunity to significantly change the lives of girls and women in India.
DONATION$: The money I raise will go toward my airfare from the US to India, in-country transportation, lodging, food, administrative fees and program costs. I am volunteering through Cross Cultural Solutions. I have already submitted my application and a non-refundable $350 deposit. I will be volunteering for three weeks. The total program cost is $3849 and the airfare is roughly $2000 +/-.
