Richmond Education Gardens & Apiary. Volunteers from the Villages of Clarendon Hills are proposing to develop education gardens and apiary on an unused 0.15 acre public road right-of-way next to the Village Public Work. The Gardens will provide a new place for our community to promote educational programs about natural and organic gardening methods, and our natural environment. Working with local educators, volunteer landscape designers, beekeepers and gardeners, our goal is to build accessible gardens & apiary with an open classroom that will ultimately provide home grown edibles to our residents and restaurants.
The Gardens are designed to include an apiary surrounded by native vegetables, fruit trees, herbs, wildflowers, butterfly, wall and rain gardens, and a space to accommodate an open classroom. All elements have been incorporated with lessons in sustainability in mind. Each item will be clearly marked with a plaque providing general information and a “link” to the project website. Mechanical and biological systems will be displayed to show how they work and serve the garden.
Our goal is to provide an educational space, built by residents and local business owners, that will service the community for years to come.
