Where can we Take you?
Introducing Take Magazine – the new independently published print and online publication offering an entirely new look at New England’s new culture.
We’re getting ready to publish our first print issue and we need your support so we can bring Take to newsstands and bookstores around New England.
Each issue of Take will be filled with in-depth stories of people in New England who are making culture happen in the fields of visual art, music, design, literature, dance, food, fashion, and theater. Our editorial is for both culture makers and those who are culture consumers.
Take soft-launched at the beginning of 2015 with our online edition. At the same time, work began on the first print edition which will appear this September. Both editions are locally grown and sourced from a network of contributors living from Burlington to New Haven, Portland to the Berkshires.
In the online edition of Take, readers get updates to help plan their cultural consumption, access to video documentary shorts, podcasts and – for subscribers – access to a digital version of the entire print edition.
So far this year we’ve worked with close to 50 contributors and published dozens of stories online ranging from film festivals to poetry, visual artists to video games. In addition to expanded written editorial, our long-range plan includes more in our Take:1 series of video documentaries, podcasts and events.
The print edition of Take will come out 10 times a year and will feature in-depth interviews and photo essays all in a striking, modern layout. Our team has paid special attention to every detail that goes into the making of a print publication ensuring that each issue will be an object that every reader will want to hold onto.
Where can you Take us?
The team at Take Magazine has worked very hard to create a business plan to help guide these crucial first years of our publication. Launching a new print magazine has never been an easy business – today we face skepticism that anyone would even WANT to try this in our digital age. The good news is there is a surge of independently published magazines being produced around the world by many dedicated publishers. We share their optimism for the future of print and think New England is ready for its own publication full of quality writing and artwork.
We have the support of a group of investors, an amazing staff and a growing team of freelancers who have helped us get Take Magazine started. To continue our success we need readers who are prepared to support our idea by investing in it as well.
In return for your support by making a pledge, you’ll be among the first to receive the print edition of Take Magazine, receive exclusive invites to our launch parties, get one-of-a-kind Take T-shirts made by the creative youth at Artists for Humanity in Boston, or even receive a signed, limited edition print by one of our September cover artists, Eben Kling.

Beyond just mailing you a magazine each month, the broader goal of Take Magazine is to inspire a sense of community, connecting creatives to others in their field and connecting artists with audiences and cultural consumers.

The magazine business is a challenging business to enter. Take Magazine has been in the planning for more than five years and we’ve done extensive research on trends in the publishing industry to develop our business plan. We don’t claim to be experts on everything, but we have crafted a plan that strives to identify and mitigate risk at every opportunity. Our long-range growth will be determined by hitting key readership and revenue targets. If we miss those targets we have alternative plans to both keep Take publishing and to seek new paths forward.
