Drums 4 Special Kidz
The story of the project
My name is Sarah. I’m a qualitifed music therapist who has been working in schools with children with special needs for around a year and a half. As part of my job, I am always, ALWAYS looking for things that will engage, excite and motivate my kids through the vehicle of music. The thing that I have found which never ever fails to put a smile on their faces, to engage them in a way nothing else does, is drumming. The problem is, there is no money to develop a comprehensive program. I’m launching a pozible campaign to get some funds to launch a therapeutic drumming program at my school. Because this school has less than fifty kids, it is a small school and getting funding for anything can be tricky. At the moment, there isn’t the budget for even one large djembe. A drumming program and drums would have big therapeutic benefit for these kids including developing speech and language skills, hand eye coordination, emotional expression, improve impulse control and enhance self esteem. Just to name a few things. Any donation, big or small would be much appreciated. Thanks!
