The MainBlock, as the name states, is the main module in the sound system. The chassis is weather resistant and made of premium-anodized aluminum. It houses a built-in low distortion amplifier; 4 hours of rechargeable lithium-ion battery life. The MainBlock can be used as a stationary or portable system, depending on your lifestyle and desire. The philosophy behind this module is to deliver full range sound, without sacrificing volume or audio quality, which is why we restricted the functions of the MainBlock to pure audio features. The module houses ultra-low noise components and features a low vibration design, making its sole purpose, delivering HiFi sound.
The SmartBlock is an in development Linux-based module, which allows users to directly interact with their audio system like never before. Once completed, you can directly answer calls, change songs, download apps, and get notifications. The module houses its own Bluetooth and WiFi card as well, allowing full connectivity. You can also download music apps, such as Youtube, directly onto the SmartBlock, making it much more interactive. This module has been included above and in the video to demonstrate the potential of the SparkBlocks’ ecosystem. We are working hard to bring this module to make this to a point, which can be used by the masses. Stay tuned!
The Bike Attachment safely connects your Blocks to the handle bar of your bicycle. It even serves as a phone dock so you can see your phone while you are cruising. The Bike Attachment is made from aluminum and premium plastics to ensure durability and quality. Furthermore, the dock is adjustable, making it easy to use with all types of phones.
The Handle Attachment is made of premium Walnut and aluminum connectors, to ensure a high quality, comfortable feel. We wanted to make premium audio accessible and portable.
The USBBlock is a lightweight attachment that allows you to charge your devices with the SparkBlocks’ battery. Whether you forget to charge your phone the night before or are out for a long day, this little attachment will allow you to have a backup battery for all your devices.
The VisualizerBlock is a 8×16 bit Bi-color LED audio visualizer. The visualizer creates a colourful display, which generates real time images based on your music. The Visualizer comes with its own frequency and sensitivity control knobs.
One of the most innovative and important concepts within the Spark system is the fact that the modules attach to one another. This connection is done via “T” shaped lightweight aluminum connectors, which ensure that the Blocks are physically linked to each other easily. Once connected, the Blocks essentially become one unit, only disconnected when the “T” connector is removed. Not only does the sliding “T” connection allow you to add, remove or replace blocks, it also allows you to express your creativity by arranging them the way you like. Whether it’s to make the speakers fit into a specific place or to have fun.
The unique design of the modules and the “T” connectors, have created a universal connection between all modules regardless of material, design or size.
In order to achieve 100% quality control on our products, we have dedicated all of our designing, assembling and distribution to occur from Vancouver B.C. Canada. We believe that achieving truly premium product development, requires close monitoring and quality control mechanisms, which should not be delegated, and should be directly under the Spark Team influence.
Upon reaching our goal on Kickstarter, we will be establishing a forum on our website, which allows backers, enthusiasts and the general public to suggest and vote for desired Blocks and capabilities, giving life to the Spark Community. We want to create a platform on which the Spark Community can propose ideas, and vote as a group to vet the next generation of Blocks. The Blocks come in three cube shaped sizes, which allows you to uniquely customize your experience. The Blocks are made from anodized aluminum which gives them a premium feel, and makes them more durable. The dimensions of the blocks have been designed in a way that the length of the smaller and medium Blocks, equal the length of the larger Block, which makes it visually more appealing and easier to stack, even sideways!
Some Blocks such as the LanternBlock are available in wood and other materials as well.
Our philosophy is that, premium audio should be accessible and affordable for everyone. We designed SparkBlocks to address music lovers’ audio needs + give everyone the option of customizing their experience to suit their lifestyles. Each module within the SparkBlock system has been designed specifically for distinct tasks in mind. This notion of specialized module functions has been one of the underpinning objectives of our design philosophy. The unique modular system, has allowed us to optimally calibrate each Block to carry out a set of tasks with considerable quality. Rather than weighing the trade off between form and functionality, we have strove to make form the functionality, within a unique ecosystem of Blocks that give users endless possibility for customization.
Spark Audio has a rich history of creating innovative speaker systems. For over four years, dozens of different models have been created. The goal of Yousef, the designer and co-founder of Spark Audio has always been to enhance user experience. A fundamental component of user experience is the visual impact of the speaker system, hence the innovative and controversial designs of the Spark Audio speakers seen below.
Spark Audio has always used the most innovative and unique materials to construct its speakers. Combining different techniques and procedures to combine elements like rare African wood and glass to create a transparent speaker that is aesthetically pleasing while delivering high quality sound. We seek to push the limits of design by bringing new and exciting shapes with every speaker and component that we build.
One of the signature design marks of Spark Audio’s designer is the use of transparent material. The unique transparent design is based on the idea that a transparent speaker adapts to its environment without disturbing its surroundings. The see-through design also allows you to see all the components that make your music, exposing all the elements of music and the components that make up the music.
At Spark Audio we start by choosing the material and allowing the material to inspire us. Materials have to be touched and experienced in person to fully understand its potential. Picking from the best sources is critical to create a premium feel and experience. It is also important to pick materials that can maintain their chemistry and shape to meet Sparks’ quality and durability standards.
To create our products, we use traditional and modern techniques to build the impossible. Depending on the speaker design, process such as milling, turning and hand carving coupled with modern machinery such as laser cutters and CNC mills are used to create precise and complex structures. The Ultimate goal in any design process is to create a unique product that is functional and durable. Testing and experimenting are a key step in any design process and machining.
Prior to the Spark Audio venture, Yousef and Ramtin created a partnership importing, modifying, servicing and selling Laser Cutting/Engraving machinery. This allowed the team to gain more expertise in offshore supply chain management, and due to the success of Spark Laser, provided them with priceless problem solving skills. Another central component of our philosophy is meeting our backers’ expectations by delivering quality products that are durable and affordable. Although we have already achieved a working prototype, there are still many steps that need to take place before SparkBlocks are ready to be received by our backers in large numbers. The quotes that we have received from our suppliers require large quantities of raw materials to be purchased. Additionally, we have modelled our costs for the SparkBlocks to be assembled in Canada, in order to have complete control of the production process. We have set out to deliver premium HiFi sound in an affordable package, which is modular, and with that comes our own strict quality control guidelines and testing timeline.
We have excluded the SmartBlock from the rewards of this project due to the complexity of its features. While the blueprints for the design and circuitry have been determined, we are developing the Linux-based software to seamlessly work with the rest of the modules, and allow users to use the SmartBlock as a command unit.
We also have to make sure that SparkBlocks meet specific international safety requirements. Furthermore we have to secure sales licenses from proposed partners such as Bluetooth.
