Jurassica will be the worlds’ largest and most visually stunning prehistoric exhibition centre on England’s Jurassic coast. It will host amazing prehistoric artifacts, talks by brilliant speakers, and embrace incredible technology to bring the dinosaurs to life. This, and so much more, will be set in a naturally sympathetic, world class centre in Broadcroft quarry on the isle of Portland.
We need your help to raise the profile of Jurassica, by bringing it to life in summer 2015. Our Pop-up Jurassica won’t just tell you what Jurassica is about, it will give you the chance to experience what will be inside. The event, hosted at Osprey Leisure Centre in Castletown, will be free and open to all, for a long weekend at the end of August. Featuring a fabulous central exhibit created by Azureus Design Limited, the pop-up will bring together the Jurassic Coast community and the public with activities, arts, sculpture, events, talks and workshops suitable for all ages. And of course, FOSSILS!
What we’ll do:
- Create a pop-up Jurassica, a four-day summer spectacular.
- Bring home the weird and wonderful inhabitants of the Jurassic Coast.
- Provide opportunities for all to engage for free.
- Raise awareness and excitement for the entire Jurassica project.
Why it’s a great idea:
The Jurassic coast has been the location of some fascinating fossil discoveries since the early Victorian era, and has taught us so much about the prehistoric world. The whole coastline has become a huge tourist attraction, and has 100’s of thousands of visitors each year. Jurassica will draw even more visitors from across the globe and provide a focal point for tourism on the Jurassic coast.
It is an incredibly exciting project and there is a huge appetite to know more. A stunning summer pop-up exhibition that is free to the local community, and all visitors to the area, will provide the very first opportunity for people to experience Jurassica. It will embed the project in the local community and forge relationships with businesses, organisations and residents along the Jurassic Coast. It is visual, exciting and unusual, and it will get people talking.
How we’ll get it done:
- Commission exhibit design
- Commission events and activities
- Design and build exhibit space
As you can imagine this is an enormous project, and we desperately need your help to get us up and running. By supporting us in setting up this exhibition you will be providing the foundations for us to build a truly unique and inspirational centre of absolute brilliance, that will last for a long, long time.
You can find out more about the project as a whole by visiting our website http://www.jurassica.org/,and please pledge now to help us turn this wonderful dream into an amazing reality.
