Fotella app: Self-organizing photos and videos that are organized by events
We believe, and our initial testing has shown us to be on the right track, that relationships among individuals that are based around events are of great interest. People have connections that are more fundamental than those ferreted out in traditional social media friendships, by virtue of simply having participated in an event together. “Event” can be narrowly or broadly defined.
We aren’t new to the photo industry. We operate a website with over 150 million images stored, both by pros and retail customers, for sharing and physical printed goods. As such, we have several existing tools already working that allow mass cloud storage and indexing. We have created a sophisticated geo-time hash that can instantly sort through thousands of images.
Our alpha prototype used a simple mobile browser implementation, but it proved unreliable as their are simply too many variables outside of our control. We have decided to do this via an app so as to have far greater control of the user experience.
What makes this app so unique
- It’s a novel way of thinking about how to facilitate relationships among people quickly and easily. It can be used anonymously or on an account basis, although our hunch is that most users will do the former.
- The basic premise is allowing massive amounts of images to be sorted for location and time radii.
- Obviously, the preliminary design has escape routes for abuse, etc.
Why we need your support
