ABOUT ME
My name is Lisa Lewis, and I am the author of a new play called SCHOOLED, which has been accepted into the New York International Fringe Festival, Aug. 14 – 30, 2015.
I hope to raise the funds to bring SCHOOLED to life at this prestigious festival where it will make its world premiere. It will be a thrilling new step in my career as a writer and bring a story I deeply believe in to life.
It was a great honor to be accepted into the Fringe, but I can’t bring SCHOOLED to the stage without some financial assistance. Producing a play in New York is impossible without the proper funding, which is why I’m asking for your help to make this happen. We’ve got a great team, including the amazing director James Kautz (Artistic Director of The Amoralists Theatre Company), who’s passionate about developing great new work by emerging writers.
ABOUT SCHOOLED
SCHOOLED is a fiercely funny and gripping new play about privilege, ambition, and the lengths we go to succeed. Two university students vie for a competitive grant from their roguish professor in a taut threesome that tests their romantic relationship and their ethics. A biting drama with surprising humor, SCHOOLED is an examination of the lies we tell ourselves, and the truths we refuse to believe.
SCHOOLED is a story that’s close to my heart, but one I believe speaks to many. It’s born of the fact that the chasm between rich and poor is widening and the opportunities for success are becoming increasingly the province of those who can pay. It will take a passionate community and supporters like you to put this work on stage so that the political becomes personal, perspectives can change, and new ideas can emerge.
Along with our talented director James Kautz, our amazing team includes Tyler M. Perry (Set Design & Props), Evan Roby (Lighting Design), Jeanne Travis (Sound Design & Production Stage Manager), Judy Bowman CSA (Casting) and our GM’s Zachary Laks and Anthony Francavilla of Form Theatricals.
