Personal Story

ESTEBAN DÁVILA – CO-FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Esteban grew up with a passion for arts & crafts which eventually translated into a desire to design and create. He earned his BFA with a graphic design focus that gave him the opportunity to explore multimedia platforms. From Puerto Rico, to Florida, to New York City, his design aesthetics have adapted to broad multi-cultural audiences, as they continue to evolve through time and space. Now as co-founder and creative director of NoDá Design Studio, Esteban’s detailed-oriented approach allows him to complete all phases of design.

CAROLINA NOBORIKAWA – CO-FOUNDER & LEAD DESIGNER
Originally from Lima, Peru, Carolina grew up in the Art Deco surroundings of South Florida as her family moved to the sunshine state when she was only 10 years old. Years later she earned her BFA, with a Interior Design concentration, at the Miami International University of Art and Design. A true believer that every city has a design inspiration, she moved to Brooklyn, New York in search of new horizons. Now as co-founder and designer at NoDá Design Studio, Carolina works in various design projects in which she stresses the importance of functional design reflected by material, form and space.

Business Description

NoDá Design Studio started as a company that offers a wide range of creative services with a focus on Laser Cutting and Engraving. Our passion for design led us to create our very own product line: Laser Eye – NoDá Design Studio®. We’ve created a range of laser cut and engraved home products, greeting cards, games, gadgets, accessories and other gifts.

We work with various types of materials, but tend to use sustainable wood as prime material in our products. Everything we make is a combination of our design skills and the technology of laser cutting and laser engraving. Our product design is 100% original, every piece is made and hand finished in Brooklyn, NY.

One of our biggest challenge is working from our home studio. We’ve outgrown our space, and there’s no more room for additional tools that can benefit our processes. We’ve managed to turn our living room into a full production house, and we look forward to move into a bigger space where we can fulfill more orders.

Our customer base comes from both sides of our business, both retail and custom services. Our retail side allows us to promote our laser cutting services, and our retail production has made us perfect our use of our tools and finishing processes. We carry our craftsmanship into our professional services, creating that way a customer base that can help us promote our business by word of mouth. We have several goals for our company, both short term and long term.

Our short term goals include fulfilling our holiday market production (Union Square Holiday Market, Artists and Fleas, Greenpointers Holiday Market, and Brooklyn Holiday Bazaar), buying a second laser engraver, and moving into a new studio space. The holiday markets participation covers about 40% of our annual market income; therefore, we give priority and focus on this time of the year. Some long term goals include, having a production house in Brooklyn NY where we can bring the community together with job opportunities and art related workshops. We look forward to excel in our industry and become one of the top design companies in USA.

We are proud that we were able to quit our jobs in “Corporate America” and put all of our focus and energy into something we are really passionate about. We started with a few ideas and very little knowledge of how to run a business. Now, a year and a half later, we feel like we’ve learned so much and we are ready to take this business to the ultimate level of success.

What is the purpose of this loan?

The loan would fund the rest of our Holiday Markets participation fees, which is a total $5,700.
– Union Square Holiday Market ($8,700 – $3,000 paid deposit = $5,700)
– Brooklyn Holiday Bazaar ($270)
– Greenpointers Market ($145)
– Total Due = $6,115

The other $3,885 will be used to purchase:
– A second laser engraving machine, at a price of $2000
– Spare parts for our current machine $897 :
– New laser tube $787
– Exhaust Fan $75,
– Mirrors and Lenses $35.
– The remainder amount ($988) will purchase materials for our products.
