Goal: The goal of our project is the raise money to help fund our training and trip to compete at the 2015 Dragon boat World Championships for the under 16 team (U16). We are 4 hard-working and committed athletes and we would appreciate any support you could provide to us. Please read our story below and individual bios in the About tab to learn more about this project.
Our Story: We’ve made it to Team USA, and are humbled and honored to compete for our country in the 2015 World Championships for the under 16 Team USA crew. Your generously donated funds are helping us pay for the costs associated with this honor- travel and accommodation expenses from the Bay Area to Ontario, Canada.
Our story is about struggle, hard work, and the pursuit of excellence. We are four Bay Area paddlers who have dedicated ourselves to the sport of dragon boating. For the past two years, we have had many ups and downs. Our team, Dieselfish Youth, has been in the process of rebuilding. We have struggled during our early competitions, but with dedication and commitment, we have raised our level of performance. We have helped our team to capture gold medals at Long Beach in the summer of 2014 and at the 2015 CDBA Youth Race. We are young, competitive, and part of a new generation of athletes determined to bring our team to new heights.
To get to the level we are currently at, we’ve had to battle an array of health issues and discipline ourselves to train consistently in order to become stronger and more skilled. Despite the numerous hurdles that we have had to overcome, we have demonstrated grit and determination. This is what inspired our coach to nominate us to Team USA. We will be the first paddlers representing the Bay Area on the U16 Team USA.
