Strong, Centered, Calm: Yoga and Kids on the Spectrum
More children are being diagnosed with nervous system disorders ranging from ADD to autism. Life is becoming more stressful and these kids feel the pressure, too. School administrators and teachers often lack the tools to address this problem within a traditional curriculum.
Yoga offers help for kids in the “Spectrum”. It’s helps to create the missing link allowing the nervous system to function in an integrated way.
Yoga poses strengthen a child’s nervous system.
We have observed noticeable improvements in a month. Yoga sessions reduce the excitable levels of the children, increasing levels of focus in the classroom and at home. Yoga practice initiates a rewiring or reorganizing of the brain and nervous system, enhancing the positive effects of meditation.
Parents notice better sleep patterns and less agitation.
Teachers notice the improvement and are able to handle the children in a calmer manner.
The sessions create constructive playtime and enhance imagination.
We want to offer classes for kids, parents and care givers at the studio and outreach areas. We want to reach more people and money can be an obstacle. We also would like to develop a curriculum that we can share with individual teachers or entire school districts.
Over the past few years, each of us has worked with this project on an individual basis and are now bringing our talents and resources together. Together, we represent seven different styles of yoga with decades of experience as teachers.
