We make the internet faster!
Irvine, www.badunetworks.com
We make the internet 2-3X faster, especially over wireless (cellular and Wi-Fi).
As the world of many small and medium sized devices continues to expand and compete for available bandwidth, we’ve been hard at work developing our technology to improve the way the world connects. Badu Networks provides software and appliance solutions that improve the end-user experience. We do this by increasing the speed with which TCP delivers data over both wired and wireless connections.
Our technology is impactful because it is focused at the transport layer (layer 4 of the OSI stack). The end result can be a much improved user experience for web sites, streaming video, social media, cloud storage and interactive web-based applications that use the Internet as their transport.
We have a solution that is easy to deploy, in a multitude of ways, anywhere in the network; for example, software can be included in servers and appliances, embedded in devices such as routers, embedded in phones and mobile devices, offered as a cloud-based service, offered as an app (until we can embed into the mobile device).
Badu has patent-pending software that improves the way a traffic “governor”called TCP works to manage data traffic congestion. Hence, if you can make traffic run more smoothly, users experience “faster”throughput and network infrastructure can handle more traffic without spending more money.
We…
•help make full use of your bandwidth
•solve TCP’s inefficiencies and ineffectiveness, especially wireless environments
•therefore can help improve 95% of the world’s traffic because they are governed by the TCP “rules”
Our audience is everyone using the internet —consuming content from the internet, putting data onto the internet, or handling and/or moving data across the internet. Initial target customer are infrastructure companies including wireless carriers, broadband providers, content distribution networks, application delivery controllers, and network OEMs. Next target are the large Web 2.0 companies like Amazon, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. Next level target are the Enterprise and Commercial organizations like Education, Hospitality, Medical, etc. Eventually we want to offer a product to SMB and consumer/home and/or embed software into phone handsets.

In a nutshell, Badu Networks is revolutionizing the internet as it is today, challenging every boundary and every limitation in the speed of connectivity. Badu Networks’ products are scalable and deployable in nearly every environment, giving their technology the potential to impact every web user and improve their online experience exponentially.
Badu’s VP Sales, Mike Beard, presented to over 50 people at one of the educational sessions at the recent 2014 Stream Media West conference in Huntington Beach, CA. The audience did not realize there would be a drawing for an AppleTV product. Beverly Watson of Cerritos College was the lucky winner. But at this session, everyone was a winner because they gained insight into the challenges of streaming video smoothly to end users in today’s wireless environment. One major factor limiting the full use of bandwidth and slowing network throughput, not well-known by many, is under performance of the network “governor” (also known as TCP). Network environments today with the proliferation of mobile devices and large content volume going down AND up the network, especially wireless, is under strained. The result is poor end user experience — the famous buffering wheel. Badu Networks has technology that modifies TCP so network throughput improves 2X or more.
More money continues to be spent on faster cell speed, faster WiFi routers, more bandwidth, more network tricks, more more more of the same? But users still cannot play full 1080 HD video on their mobile devices (good luck with 4K Ultra HD).
Increasing amounts of content AND increasing size of content along with user’s insatiable consumption of them are outpacing wireless infrastructure’s ability to deliver quality experience. And we’re just starting to see the emergence of the Internet of Things…more traffic. All the current effort only yield marginal throughput improvement—TCP is the limiting factor.
Hardware and software solutions that deliver better network performance.
WarpTCP™ is an innovative new approach to TCP Optimization that delivers between 20% and 300% better throughput depending on the network conditions, network distance and size of file.
WTCP incorporates algorithms that optimize Wi-Fi networks as well as the mobile last mile. We believe WarpTCP™ employs a unique, significantly better performance to TCP flows. Most current TCP Optimization technologies utilize loss and/or latency as the sole catalyst for making adjustments and re-transmitting packets.WarpTCP™ augments these data points by incorporating additional meta-data allowing it to further distinguish loss from actual congestion.
Because WarpTCP™ reacts to network events in real time and attempts to discern real congestion from loss, WarpTCP is better able to optimize flows over typically lossy networks. Such networks are prevalent in the “wireless last hop or mobile last mile”. Badu has improved on current and past TCP Optimization technologies. Badu’s introduction of WarpTCP™ improves on known approaches which have fallen short in delivering significant performance. More importantly, current optimization technologies don’t take into consideration the tremendous growth of mobile and Wi-Fi traffic.

Significant revenue has not been achieved…yet. Our current deployments and targeted customers required evaluation and longer selling cycles. We are in the middle of the evaluations. With limited resources most of 2013, a subset of industry customers were targeted to gain industry creditability. The customers included top tiered players in the CDN, ADC, Carrier space.
The bulk of 2013 investments raised came after September which was quickly used to complete development of product packaging (ie. administrative interface, deployment footprints, testing environments) and hire key team members. We expect industry validation and revenue achievement in 2015.

RISKS OF INVESTING IN STOCK
Investments always entail some degree of risk. Be aware that:
1. Some investments in stock cannot easily be sold or converted to cash. Check to see if there is any penalty or charge if you must sell an investment quickly.
2. Investments in stock issued by a company with little or no operating history or published information involves greater risk than investing in a public company with an operating history and extensive public information. There are additional risks if that is a low priced stock with a limited trading market, e.g., so-called penny stocks.
3. Stock investments, including mutual funds, are not federally insured against a loss in market value.
4. Stock you own may be subject to tender offers, mergers, reorganizations, or third-party actions that can affect the value of your ownership interest. Pay careful attention to public announcements and information sent to you about such transactions. They involve complex investment decisions. Be sure you fully understand the terms of any offer to exchange or sell your shares before you act. In some cases, such as partial or two-tier tender offers, failure to act can have detrimental effects on your investment.
See the Private Placement Memorandum for additional Risk Factors.
PingFog is a cost-effective network optimization product that uses patent-pending technology developed by Badu Networks. It is software that can be deployed as an appliance or as an origin server component.
While every situation is different, we can make the following general characterization. WarpTCP technology typically provides 30% – 50% boost in effective mobile throughput (more in some cases). For streaming applications, the effective throughput can be as high as 200% – 300%.
All traffic that uses TCP for trasport including web and video traffic.
No. PingFog CE is a fully transparent proxy solution and can add significant value in other ways. Our optional multi-layer federated cache is of interest to many customers.
Yes. WarpTCP™ can make a big difference over the wireless last mile. Because of WarpTCP, TCP sessions can complete faster — which results in reduced radio network use, thus leading to higher capacity for those that are connected. The result is a much improved user experience on mobile devices. We have also seen a 20%-25% improvement in mobile device battery life under certain heavy use conditions.
We are agnostic to content, so any type of file running over TCP will benefit. The benefit will vary by size of content such as a web page (small objects) versus a video (longer stream).
In almost every case, yes. TLS and other similar transport layer security schemes are accelerated, IPSEC is not.
Not at all! We designed PingFog with simplicity in mind, all the way through. Installation is easy and straight forward.
Maybe. The installed PingFog system must see all of the packets in a TCP stream in order to perform its work. In some complex network configurations, routing changes are required in order to ensure that the packet flow is correct.
