STUCK IN MUTE: a young woman whose Selective Mutism disorder causes her to live in a world of isolation

iCrowdNewswire - Jun 26, 2015

STUCK IN MUTE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

We all find ourselves alone at times.  We all struggle to find the right words to say in difficult situations.  In this story, I explore the world of Robin, a woman who so dearly wants to speak to others, but is physically incapable of it.  This disorder, Selective Mutism, is fairly widespread, but is completely unknown to most people.  Most of us label people who don’t speak much as SHY, dismissing it as a phase that they will grow out of at some point.  We completely ignore the physical limitations, the mental roadblocks, that make it virtually impossible for some people to speak.

This film, is just a way for me to share this story with others.  My hope is that after watching this film, you walk away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for Selective Mutism (and similar disorders).  Writing this film has been a journey for me and I am excited to share my exploration of this unique world.

SYNOPSIS

Robin is a young woman that suffers from a severe case of Selective Mutism.  While she has the ability to speak, her anxiety prevents her from talking to others.  She spends most of her days hiding from the world and avoiding any interaction with others.  A brief encounter with Jay, a young boy who suffers from the same disorder,  causes her to explore the boundaries of her isolation.  Robin soon finds herself thrown into a situation where a few words from her lips can have a profound effect on Jay and everyone around her. As her life is turned upside down, she struggles to find the right thing to do.

DISTRIBUTION PLAN

This film will be shown at several Film Festivals through out the next year.  We also plan to make this film available online and VOD. We will be pursuing distribution with several online entities including Netflix, iTunes, and of course, Seed & Spark.
