That two thirds of our world’s population are going to be living in cities by 2050 reminds us the way their futures are governed, designed and organised is an urgent concern. I want to be part of a movement that reimagines an urban future embracing innovative environmental policies, inclusive politics and sustainable economic development. It is imperative that I study this course at LSE and I need financial help to get me there.
Hello, my name is Martha. I graduated from SOAS, School of Oriental and African Studies, London with a First Class BA in Social Anthropology in July 2013. The vibrant and intellectual environment at SOAS inspired me to critically engage with international urban politics. Having lived in Paris for the last two years working as an intern for an urban and architectural design studio I am now compelled to continue my studies. LSE is one of the top universities in the world and this Masters in City Design and Social Science is a unique and vocational course that would give me crucial practical skills to work on sustainable and social empowering urban development projects. However I do not have the independent means to cover the tuition fees and the incredibly high cost of living of London and I would be highly appreciate any support you can give.
THE COST OF THE MASTERS
The MSc City Design and Social Science is a full time 12 month masters. This Masters has incredibly intensive contact hours, and tuition fees include practical studio based master classes, an international field trip (in previous years to Mumbai, Moscow, Sarajevo, and Beirut), and printing costs and a studio for students. There are around 25 students on the course and previous students now work in international urban design companies, consultancies, for agencies such as the UN, sustainable urban planning, think tanks, in government and development.
– Tuition Fees : £23,976
(including an international field trip)
– Living costs : estimated minimum £9,000 for the year.
(rent, bills, travel, food and other costs)
TOTAL £32, 976
I can’t afford to independently pay for my studies. I am saving as much money as I can this summer working and have secured a job in London to undertake during my studies to pay for my living costs. I have received the support of three UK based charities (total sum of £2,000), however I need help to contribute towards my tuition fees otherwise I will not be able to take up this place at LSE and would risk losing out on this incredible opportunity.
I would fully embrace this challenging year of study and I would be a great investment for the future of our cities. Please help if you can and share my campaign so that I can realise my career potential. Any support that you or your friends can offer me in my future, in anyway and in any amount, will be highly valued and appreciated.
