NEW YORK, NY, June 19, 2015 – The Adventurous Suitcase is a project that aims to entertain and teach children about geography and culture in a fun way. In the first phase, the project aims to publish a series of picture books, each focusing on a different country for children to familiarize themselves with the character and the various cultures around the world. Secondly, the character Theo and his friends will have an animated series that reinforces the message of the books and helps children better understand the diversity around them.
Elaine Merces has already self-published two books. In the first book Theo begins his journey in China and is still a bit shy as he explores Chinese culture. The next book has Theo becoming more comfortable with his adventure as he finds a friend to help explore Brazil. The stories involve humorous foreign situations that come along with learning about new cultures. These unusual and funny real life scenarios are written and illustrated in a simple, didactic format for ease of children’s learning.
Living abroad made Elaine Merces understand how little we know about the world around us and how understanding cultural diversity can help form a solid foundation in a persons developmental period. Today we are more connected than ever via the Internet and social media but most still lack a working knowledge in geography.
So, She is looking to raise the money that is needed for launching the new book, arrange book signing promotional appearances, donations and other advertising. The way she is looking to fund her endeavor is through “Crowd Funding” which is where “a crowd” of people give money to the project to fund it and in exchange they receive some type of “reward” for helping out. The donations can be as low as a $1 to whatever amount people wish to donate. They are currently running a campaign to raise the money on Kickstarter which is the largest “Crowd Funding” website on the internet. The link above has more detailed information about the project. The deadline for the campaign is July 19th, 2015.
