The Norbury Centre
We are a church based community centre with a vision to reach out to the local community. We have taken over the old driving test centre on Norbury Road in Fairwater and refurbished with our own funds. Our aims and objectives are to help the local community with practical needs, to offer advice on such matters as debt management, housing, social issues and to reach out to the community.
What we’ll do:
- We have refurbished the building, fitted a new kitchen and disabled toilets with a disabled lift on the outside.
Why it’s a great idea:
It is a great idea because there is very little in this area offering support groups, community activities and a sense of community. The project location will benefit Fairwater, Pentrebane and surrounding area. Our church ethos is to serve others and to help with practical needs.
How we’ll get it done:
- We have qualified and skilled people who already have the skills to carry out youth work and other social activities.
It is our intention to continue to have a positive impact on the community and we want to reach out and provide valuable community services to improve the lives of local people, and to develop further activities where needed in the future. We already have committed members in our church ready to take the various projects forward, for example we have trained Christians Against Poverty members, we have members who work with youth in their daytime jobs, we have trained counsellors.
