Chemical Engineering Student From Richmond Develops Champion’s Natural Fly Spray, a Safe Alternative to Harmful-Chemical Equestrian Sprays

iCrowdNewswire - Jun 17, 2015

Richmond, VA, June 16, 2016:

Champion’s Natural Fly Spray is a fly repellent spray that is made from a proprietary blend of essential oils. The safe and effective spray is the creation of Brooke Riggs, a rising senior in Chemical Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). “The idea came to me when I was taking organic chemistry and became curious in the chemicals I was using to keep the flies at bay,” says Riggs. She then decided to investigate the use of plant-based essential oils to repel flies. This lead to the creation of Champion’s Natural Fly Spray.

After two years of researching and developing various formulations, she has successfully made a safe and natural alternative to harmful chemical sprays currently used to control flies in the equestrian community. This product has gained supporters all across the country due to its effectiveness at repelling flies. “We love this fly spray! It really works, and the best part is that we are not spraying chemicals on our horses (and ourselves)!” says Mather Quarter Horses – Home of AQHA stallions Shiners Dually and WR Dual Twist.

“The spray is made from a blend of essential oils that I have worked with while at TheLab,” says Riggs. While going to school at VCU, she has also worked part-time at TheLab, the research and development laboratory of Huvard Research and Consulting, Inc. (HRC) located in the Richmond Metro Area (www.hrclab.com). “This would not be possible without the aid and support of my mentor Dr. Gary S. Huvard, and rest of the team here at HRC,” says Riggs.

To bring the product to market, Brooke has decided to seek crowdfunding through Kickstarter.com to make the first production run. The “all-or-nothing” Kickstarter campaign is seeking to raise $15,000 in 30 days. Once, funded the first production run of Champion’s Natural Fly Spray will be completed and products will be shipped to backers by late August 2015. To follow the project, be sure to find Brooke on Facebook, Kickstarter, Twitter (@ChampsNoFiles) and Champion’s Website. Please consider donating as little as $1 to bring this project to reality.
