Lincoln Youth Symphony
The Lincoln Youth Symphony is one of the only youth orchestras in the country that is offered free of charge to its members through the generosity of Lincoln Public Schools and donations from the community.
Membership is open to students in grades 9-12 from Lincoln, Nebraska who auditions for acceptance each spring. In addition, each member must also perform with his/her school’s orchestra.
Musicians who participate in the Lincoln Youth Symphony enjoy a wide range of experiences. The orchestra rehearses for two and half hours each week and performs three or more concerts per year. In addition, the students are expected to participate in chamber music groups that perform as fundraisers for student trips. The orchestra recently returned from a trip to Germany in March 2014. Our goal is to establish a scholarship fund for future trips for students who otherwise could not financially afford to go.
Our concerts are always free and open to the public. Tax-deductible contributions to the Lincoln Youth Symphony help support the need-based scholarship trip fund, operating expenses of the orchestra, including music rental and purchase, program printing, and publicity. Your support helps to bring accessible orchestral music to our youth, their families, friends and the community.
Please consider supporting the Lincoln Youth Symphony and help us to continue to enrich the lives of our youth through orchestra music. Thank you!
