Hi, my name is Martin Sobey and I am an 18 year old Junior Triathlete from Charlottetown, PEI! If I maintain my current athletic trajectory and have your financial help, I have a real opportunity to compete for Canada in the 2016 and/or 2020 summer Olympics.
I have recently completed my first year of a Science degree at the University of Prince Edward Island and have a 4.0 grade point average.
I ran my first half marathon with my mom at the age of 12 and started triathlon a little over two years ago. I represented PEI at the Canada Games for Triathlon in 2013. I also swam on the UPEI varsity swim team this year and was awarded the Rookie of the Year, of which I am very proud.
In March 2015, I competed at the North American Junior Triathlon Championships in Sarasota, Florida where I finished in 15th place overall. This was an amazing experience for me and it also qualified me for the American Championships in Mexico! I will be the only Canadian east of Quebec competing and only one of seven male athletes from across Canada competing.
Monterrey CAMTRI Triathlon Championships proved to be the highlight, so far, of my life as a triathlete. I finished 18th in the American Junior Championships and also finished FIRST PLACE in the Junior Mixed Relay as we proudly represented Canada by becoming the Continental Champions.
Currently, most of my time is spent training or studying. It doesn’t leave a lot of time for anything else. I am dedicated…driven…and determined to succeed! I am raising money to assist with the costs of my equipment, training and travel expenses so I can continue competing in Triathlon. My ultimate goals for the future are to continue improving and, as I said, compete for Canada at the Olympics!
I hope you will support me in my fundraising efforts! My goal is to raise $10,000 to help offset the many costs I have for the upcoming summer! I hope you can help.
All past support has been primarily from family and I am grateful for their backing and encouragement. They have unfailingly been there while I continue to pursue my athletic dream. I would look forward to having you join my team of supporters.
