Movie Aims to Expose the Truths About Unfair Judgments of Members of the LGBT Community

iCrowdNewswire - Jun 4, 2015

As many mainstream Christian denominations draw their lines in the culture war, award-winning filmmaker Kevin O’Brien chose to tackle the tensions between the church and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons with his first feature film. At the End of the Day is a dramatic comedy about a fundamentalist Christian professor who experiences a profound change when he finds himself in a gay support group, to foil their launch of an LGBT homeless teen shelter in their small town.

Kevin O’Brien is a straight, Christian ally but that didn’t happen overnight. It took time for him to honor the stories of his LGBT friends before his head could follow his heart. “Christians have been trying to provide answers for a long time now. I think that it’s time that we lay that down and start asking questions and then take the time to truly listen,” said O’Brien. “I know that’s when I have developed the most meaningful relationships with people.”

The film’s lighthearted tone provides the levity needed to deal with such a heavy topic. The sobering truth is that approximately 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT. This is largely because of rejection from religious families at the suggestion of their pastors and faith-based counselors. “For the church the question is no longer whether homosexuality a sin. The question is will the church admit its sin of casting away the fatherless, the orphan and seek to rectify it?” said O’Brien.
