LION HEART EXPEDITION – CLIMBING DENALI FOR THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AT WESTMEAD
Hi my name is Ben and I’m hoping to make a difference to sick kids with heart disease.
My friend’s baby boy recently died of a congenital heart defect and I was profoundly touched by his short life.
I want to make a difference to others who are in a similar predicament.
What I will have to endure is nothing in comparison to what these brave children and their families have to go through on a daily basis.
I hope to use their strength as an inspiration in this climb.
Denali, meaning “The High One” in Koyukon Athabaskan is the highest mountain in North America and is situated in Alaska. It has some of the most extreme weather systems in the world and is rated as the coldest mountain.
Some say climbing Mt Everest is training for Denali.
The climb will take approximately 4 weeks to complete. I will be leaving Australia on 23rd of May 2015 and will proceed to Anchorage in Alaska with my friend David.
From Anchorage we will gather supplies then make our way by train to Talkeetna.
From Talkeetna we will travel by ski-plane to Denali’s base camp.
Over the following weeks we will be carrying heavy backpacks and sleds up the far slopes of the mountain, slowly acclimatising before making a push for the summit.
