Hercules, CA, May 18, 2015 – Kelly Lough, longtime baker and cook, is starting a new Paleo-inspired business, Grainless Gourmet, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
As someone who suffers from food intolerances and is concerned about cross-contamination, Kelly has become very strict about what and where she eats. Food allergies are a rapidly increasing concern in our society. In a publication by Food Allergy Research and Education – FARE (http://www.foodallergy.org/facts-and-stats) experts and scientists wrote:
“According to a study released in 2013 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food allergies among children increased approximately 50% between 1997 and 2011.”
“Every 3 minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency department – that is more than 200,000 emergency department visits per year.”
These statistics are serious! Kelly constantly worries about what might be going on in the kitchen of a restaurant, for fear that she will be in bed the next day because a contaminant has made her sick. She found that her social life became severely limited by her desire to make good choices. Sometimes, the choice became not to eat or drink anything at all when she went out. This is what led to the idea for Grainless Gourmet: to offer safe food for people with concerns like Kelly’s. Her delicious food items will be free of dairy, soy, gluten, grains, peanuts, and processed sugar—and produced in a kitchen that is free, as well, of these food items.
Kelly has developed a Kickstarter campaign (www.tinyurl.com/grainless) where you can read more of her story and business plan. Help her meet the needs of people with food allergies through her business venture. By contributing to startup funding, you can assist her in making sure Grainless Gourmet meets all the necessary food industry standards and legalities. Kelly plans to pursue Paleo certification (certifiedpaleo.com) and its requirements for safe food products.
