Literalogue: Visual Guide to Literary Movements

by John O’Sullivan

Over 100 Literary Greats in a postcard box-set and print-series; colour coded by literary movement to help you discover new reads.

What is Literalogue?

Literalogue is a visual encyclopaedia of literature, literary movements, and the greatest literary figures; compiling all the prominent literary movements, authors and poets of the past five centuries, such as the Metaphysical Poets, the Augustans, Realism, Romanticism, Modernism and the less known Oulipo and Imagism.  All authors are categorised by literary movement using colour coded noses to help you explore and discover new reads based on what you enjoy reading most. Find authors you know and love, and discover ones you’ve never heard of till now.

Literalogue includes two products.

  • Postcard Box-set consisting of 100 of the most important literary figures representing 40 literary movements spanning five centuries: From Shakespeare and John Donne to contemporary living writers.
  • Poster Series of all the 100 designs included in the above plus an additional set of over 35 poster-only designs to bring colour and motivational quotes to your space.

Postcard Box-set

The Postcard Box-set is a limited edition, for Kickstarter only. They will be manufactured in London on 350gsm card and printed with a Lithography printer which gives them a beautiful and high quality textured finish.

The box compliments a bookshelf and looks great as a stand alone object to be opened up and explored. Or use them as bookmarks, post to a friend, or cover an entire wall!

The Postcard box-set includes 100 postcards of the most important literary figures from 40 literary movements. Each card is printed on both sides. The front is a full colour portrait of an author, with a famous quote, dates, and literary movement. The back consists of a minimal layout consisting of key facts, must read books, information about the movement and similar writers to explore.

It’s a great way to quickly brush up on the most important literary facts for each author, and easily discover a new book or author from the same literary movement and style.

Poster Series Edition

The Poster series consists of the same 100 authors as the postcards but with additional poster-only authors. They are printed on 170gsm A3 (297×420 mm)(11.7×16.5 in) coated art paper and look great hanging individually or in sets.

Each poster consists of a full colour portrait of an author, literary movement, key dates, and a famous quote. Select multiple posters based on your favourite authors or quotes,  or according to a colour scheme or combination of both.

Thank you for checking our campaign! Help us spread the word about Literalogue, so we can reach our goal and spread colourful noses to walls and bookshelves everywhere!

Risks and challenges

Getting Literalogue funded is the first step in this campaign. Following that, getting the posters, postcards and packaging manufactured will be the next step. Luckily the designs are all ready and a London based printing shop and packaging manufacturer are lined up and waiting for a go-ahead. I will personally be in charge of assembling and shipping all of the pledge rewards as soon as we reach our goal. If the volume overwhelms us, we will get assistance from a professional fulfilment company. Although we do not see any direct risks and challenges, there are always indirect or unseen tasks that may present themselves during the process of production, particularly with cooperating with courier companies for international shipping. We hope to run everything as streamlined as possible and also ahead of schedule.
