Jacksonville, NC, May 20, 2015: The fashion industry continues to ignore the need for diversity in modeling, so we said “Screw your discrimination” we will do it our way. My name is Teresa Morcho and I am the mad lady behind this idea called Stud Model Project. I started this project 3 years ago simply because I was tired of hearing stories about Studs (masculine identified women) being turned down and discriminated against during auditions, casting calls and go-sees because they could not model in heels, dresses, skirts etc. These women – especially women of color – are not being represented properly, because of that we decided to launch a project that will offer them a place to show case their talent.
Any woman can model menswear but it truly takes a special woman to model it in a way that will appeal to both genders. In order to spread the word about this style of modeling, I decided to release a coffee table photo book which featured aspiring stud models from all over the United States posing in trendy, stylish menswear. Our volume 1 book release took the lesbian community by storm. Images of these women were floating all over the web being used for marketing, promotions, calendars and more. I gained the attention of Curve Magazine’s Editor-in-chief which resulted in a 2 page spread in their October, 2014 print issue.
Due to the overwhelming positive reviews of our Volume 1 book, we decided to do it again. We are currently running an awesome crowd funding campaign on KickStarter in order to fund the Volume 2 book. If successfully funded, the Volume II book will be released in February, 2015.
