Help us to save Stanley Grange! Working together to save this vibrant community for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs in Lancashire

iCrowdNewswire - May 19, 2015

Project aim

Working together to save this vibrant community for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs in Lancashire.

About the project

Stanley Grange is a mixture of houses, flats and cottages nestled in the heart of rural Lancashire, yet only 4 miles from Preston and Blackburn, that has been a thriving community for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs for almost 40 years.  Over the past couple of years, the community has been threatened with closure and the residents (many of them long-term) have been living with the fear of losing their homes and their community; facing dispersal away from their friends and their chosen place to live. Last year the friends and families of people living at Stanley Grange persuaded the owner to put the estate and business on the market as a going concern, to enable the residents to continue living in community as they wished.

Since then, we have been working tirelessly to secure the future of this wonderful place.  We formed a registered charity (Stanley Grange Community Association – reg no 1157872) and have managed to raise the money needed to buy Stanley Grange:  We need just need one final push in order to secure the funding to run and develop the project for the first year.

That’s where you come in!

 We’re asking our CrowdFunder friends to help us raise money to:

  • Begin to develop projects on site to generate sustainble income and help us become self-sufficient;
  • Fund the purchase of basic equipment for the Community; and
  • Begin to make improvements to the site that will restore it to its former glory.

Stanley Grange was described in the past by social workers as “the best [community] of its kind in the country” – Help us ensure that generations of adults in the future will have the opportunity of living in this safe, peaceful, yet vibrant and fulfilling community,  whilst also securing the homes of those already lucky enough to live there.
