Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association, is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 providing community outreach to at-risk women and youth in the Downtown Eastside through the sport of boxing. Aprons for Gloves offers mentorship and training to individuals who do may not otherwise have the resources or support to participate in such activities. Boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. The association was born after the closing of the famous Astoria Boxing Club (Eastside Boxing Gym), leaving the local east side kids that trained there without a gym and an outlet from their troubled lives.
And then came the Restaurant Rumble event. The Restaurant Rumble is a fundraising event to keep the East Side Boxing Gym alive and revive its programs for local youth. Bartenders, servers, managers, and owners from the restaurant and service community unite to undergo 3 months of rigorous training and fight toe-to-toe with each other for a night of boxing inside the Restaurant Rumble ring.
