THE WE: ICT SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM
COMMUNITY CONTEXT
The ongoing conflicts in Syria and in Iraq have resulted in a regional political and humanitarian crisis. As of April 2015 the UN High Commissioner for Refugees has indicated a total population of 250 thousand Syrian refugees and Iraqi internally displaced people, including women and young children living in the refugee camps in the cities of Duhok and Erbil.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Promoting Peace through Education is the primary goal for World Education Foundation. This is why the World Education Foundation will be collaborating with the UNCHR and the UNDP to create an ICT Skills Training Program for refugee and internally displaced youth between the ages of 15 and 25 years old.
The WE: ICT Skills Training Program aims to develop a long-lasting employment network within the labor markets of Duhok and Erbil, for refugees and displaced youth through education, innovation technology and trainings that will allow future youth generations to be engaged as well.
Additionally, the WE: ICT Skills Training Program aims toward the social integration of refugees and displaced youth into the local communities of Duhok and Erbil, respecting cultural and social components of all groups.
YANNIS’ PEACEBUILDING PRACTICUM WITH THE WORLD EDUCATION (WE) FOUNDATION
This summer along with World Education Foundation I will be working on monitoring and evaluating the data collected, exploring the employment opportunities and participating in the creation of feasible and long-term solutions for Syrian refugees, Iraqi internally displaced youth and the local communities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
HOW CAN YOU HELP
To ensure that my volunteer consultancy in this peacebuilding project in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq goes according to plan, I am fundraising to pay the expenses of my flights, lodging and transportation.
Thank you for your time and support, and please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Cordially,
Yannis Bacalis
