Protein for Pets is one of the fastest growing pet specialty retail chains in the U.S., driving growth through a winning vertically integrated food and hard goods strategy. With a small store format and a plan to create branded food and hard goods sold exclusively at the store, Protein for Pets hopes to be the Trader Joe’s of the pet industry within the next 2 to 4 years.
With 10+ years experience operating growth companies from $2m to $80m in revenue, Giannini is in charge of operations and finance for Protein for Pets. Prior to P4P, Berenice was COO of Dogswell. She was a key member of the executive team during the sale of the company to private equity group TSG Consumer Partners. She served as Dogswell’s COO for five years after the sale. Prior to Dogswell, Berenice was the CFO of Guthy-Renker Home, LLC. Previously she was Vice President of Data Analysis for Plexus Group, a JP Morgan company and a financial analyst for a subsidiary of Citigroup. Mrs. Giannini is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). She holds a MBA from the University of Southern California and received her Bachelor of Arts in International Business Administration from American University of Paris.
Marco Giannini founded Protein For Pets to fill a void in the retail landscape for an independent pet food and supply store that is strictly driven by customers’ needs and convenience. He opened the first Protein For Pets location in March of 2014. Giannini’s forward-thinking commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of pets began while he was attending the University of Southern California for his MBA. Shortly after completing the program, Giannini founded his first company, Dogswell, in 2003. After creating a niche which quickly became standard for large and small dog treat companies, Giannini went on to turn what became a national brand specializing in nutrient and supplement filled dog food and treats, from a half million dollar company within its first year to tens of millions when he sold it at the end of 2008. Giannini continued as CEO of Dogswell until leaving the company in 2013 to create Protein For Pets. Born and raised in San Francisco, Giannini now resides in Los Angeles with his wife Berenice, COO of Protein For Pets, and their five children, three dogs and one cat.
