Disability Direct is Nottingham’s only Centre for Independent Living, providing information, advice and guidance for disabled people, carers, older people and anyone with an interest in disability issues.
On a daily basis we provide peer support, mentoring, befriending, an odd job service, gardeners and shoppers to people that are isolated in the community. We connect people to the services they need and advocate with them to access the correct support.
We are not a campaigning organisation, instead we work with local authorities, businesses, education providers and employers to ensure disabled people, carers and older people are represented and included.
We are one of the few remaining services left that support people from start to finish with benefit appeals and tribunals. In the last year we secured over seven hundred and fifty thousand pounds in unclaimed or back dated benefits for those eligible for welfare support. In a time of so much confusion and every increasing cuts, I’m sure you can appreciate that people find this service invaluable.
We are raising interim funds as we will have a four month period without money, due to our current funding coming to its natural end and our next grant starting later than expected. If we do not manage to raise these funds then we will be forced to close a much needed and beneficial service.
Any donation you can send will be greatly received.
I would be delighted to tell you more about the work we do. You can call me on 0115 9583948 or email me using charlotte.throssel@disabilitydirect.com
