GasWatch- Check BBQ tank level from your phone

The safest and most accurate way to measure your propane tank.
Shailendra Suman

Have you ever run out of propane in the middle of a BBQ?

Smart GasWatch is a propane tank scale with a gas level indicator that connects to your phone via Bluetooth. The scale accurately measures how much propane is left in the tank, and alerts you through your phone so that you never unexpectedly run out of gas while grilling again.

The integrated iOS and Android phone app indicates:

How much propane left in the tank (tank level),

how much cooking time you have left* and

sounds an alarm when you hit low levels.

*”Cooking time left” is estimated on an average BTU output of 40,000 BTU/hour. Time may vary based on how quickly or slowly your grill expends gas.

This product fits 20 lb. tanks from these countries: USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, New Zealand & Australia.

“My wife, Lisa, and I spent all day Saturday preparing food, getting the house ready, and running errands for our party. The one thing I forgot to do was have an extra propane tank filled, but the tank I had was heavy, so I wasn’t worried. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how much gas it was going to take to cook food for so many people. We were about halfway through cooking 50 hot dogs and dozens of wings when we ran out of gas. I had to rush to the store in the middle of the biggest game of the year and buy more propane, while my guests waited for dinner.”

“My roommates and I were having a big party that night, and I was out at the store. We had a huge amount of food to grill, and I realized that I had no idea how much propane was left in our tank. None of my roommates were answering their phones, so I couldn’t tell if I needed to pick up another tank or not. If I had the GasWatch app, I could have easily looked up exactly how much gas we had left, since the app saves the last reading, even when not connected via Bluetooth to GasWatch.”

With GasWatch, you no longer have to be worry about propane for your BBQ while the rest of your friends and family are having fun at your party – the cooking timer helps you keep track of your food, and you won’t have to run to the store and get another tank in the middle of an event. No need to take up additional space by storing an expensive spare tank, because you’ll know ahead of time whether your tank needs a refill. You are connected to your tank via Bluetooth at all times, so you’ll never unexpectedly run out of propane with your food half-grilled.

We introduced the first GasWatch gauge, a pressure-based propane level indicator, almost a decade ago. This product was the first of its kind and solved a grill user’s nightmare of running out of propane in middle of cooking.

Through the years, we have used customer feedback and input to improve on this original design. We quickly moved away from the pressure-based indicator and adopted the weight-based scale that we use today. We have also improved from a digital gauge display to a remote LCD display.

Now, with advent of mobile technology and app-based communication, we have brought GasWatch into the Internet of Things and created Smart GasWatch – an app-enabled propane level indicator.

We are focused on developing great consumer products that bring “Peace of Mind”. We aim to pioneer and bring the Internet of Things and connected devices to Smarthome and BBQ grilling.

“Not every smart home appliance has to be overly complicated or expensive. GasWatch is neither–it’s basically a glorified scale that’s capable of converting weight into cooking time. In the context of a propane gauge, that’s highly useful information. Being able to communicate with mobile devices is icing on the cake, or seasoning on the steak, if you will.”

“This scale tells you exactly how much propane is left in your tank, so you never run out halfway through a cookout or bring a tank back when it’s a quarter-full again.”

Risks & Challenges
We do not see much risk with our project, because most of the development work is already complete! Still, there are always risks in new product launch and we want to be prepared for everything.  We see following risks & challenges:
1. App approval at Apple App store. It may delay shipment.
2. Unseen & unplanned manufacturing issues
We promise to keep our backers updated on all campaign progress.
