Tanzania – Elective Placement Fundraiser
Please help me in raising the money to go and nurse in Tanzania as a volunteer for 3 weeks as a part of my degree, by sponsoring me today!
Hello!
For those who don’t know, my name’s Rosanna Berry and I’m just finishing my 2nd year at Uni as a child nurse.
As a part of my degree I am travelling to Tanzania in August to nurse out there in a hospital based in Arusha. It will be a great learning experience and I will be assisting with care and medical procedures 5 days a week for 3 weeks.
Arusha is a city in northan Tanzania, located close to the Masaii Tribe, Mount Kilomanjaro and the Ngorongoro Crater! The national language is Swahili though there are also many other tribal dialects. The city’s population is 1,288,088 but the hospital I will be working in serves a far greater region than the city itself. Common health concerns in this area that I may be nursing are contagious diseases, hypertensive disorder, cancer, schizophrenia, epilepsy and malnutrition. Severity of conditions will be on the whole a lot worse than I have witnessed in the UK due to less sophisticated technology and less effiecient diagnosis and care provision. I will be specialising in child nursing during my time in Arusha as this is my field of interest at university.
I will be travelling to Arusha with an organisation called ‘Work the World’ and in total including flights, accomodation, food, inssurance, a work permit and vaccinations to make this all possible the trip is going to cost around £3000. I am currently working as a Health Care Assistant/ Support Worker to help with funding but your support is invaluable in helping me reach this goal!
So far fundraising is going well but there is still a long way to go. If you are able and would like to sponser me then it would be greatly appreciated. In return I will be pushing myself to the limit and cycling just under 70miles from Brighton to Southampton at the end of May, a challenge which myself and my housemate who is also fundraising to accompany me on this adventure have chosen to accept. Those who know us well have called us mad for deciding to accept this challenge but training is well underway and we are determined to succeed. Additionally my amazing sister Emma has decided to couragously assist me with my fundraising by doing a sky dive on the 9th of May!
Thank you so much for all your support in advance,
Rosanna
