I am a current business/marketing student in California who is sick of checking facebook, then twitter, then instagram, etc. It would be nice to have everything in one place.
The app is divided into several categories, similar to Pinterest, but providing new, unique categories as well. (Anonymo-Cork, Collabo-Cork, Corkmergencies, Sell-a-Cork, Cork News, and more) Users can go from corkboard to corkboard, category to category, and get all kinds of information, from reviews on local businesses to what they’re friends are doing at that very moment. Post pictures/videos/music, find coupons and reviews, sell something yourself, promote/market, discover news/events, connect with new people WHO LIVE IN YOUR AREA! You choose how anonymous you want to be. Real-life corkboards are used for anything and everything from pictures and memories to fliers and reminders. The Virtual Corkboard was created to give you the benefits of all of the apps you use the most, combined into one.
How It’s Similar To:
Facebook/Instagram: Create a personal profile with pictures, videos, and whatever else on your own personal corkboard. Instantly share anything to your personal board, and allow other users to discover it using key words and hashtags.
Pinterest: A “pinboard” is similar to an individual “cork-board.” Users will upload/add images, text, videos, etc, to their personal profile, which is divided into categories. Users can search boards using key words or by category.
Yelp: Local businesses will post virtual flyers, images, and videos advertising coupons, new updates, etc, while consumers will leave reviews and upload images/video of those local businesses. Check to see if the restaurant you’re going to has any coupons available with the touch of a button.
Craigslist/Yik-Yak: Both Craigslist and Yik-Yak are location-based, meaning only groups of people within a certain geological distance from each other can view the same information. The Craigslist for “Ventura County” is different than the craigslist for “Casper, WY,” but they both provide the same basic functions. This is how the Virtual Corkboard will operate. Other aspects of Craigslist that we are taking seriously are giving individuals the capability to sell something to others as well as post job opportunities.
I will be working with an app development firm that already has apps in both the IOS and Android markets. The only obstacles are making sure it is easy to use and that we have enough capital to make it both visually and mechanically pleasing. Besides that, it’s just a matter of time to design, market, and file paperwork.
