BENEFITING: Tusk
Tusk is a small, dynamic organisation with over twenty years of experience initiating and funding conservation, community development and environmental education programs across Africa.
Since its formation in 1990, Tusk has raised over £25 ($40) million for a wide range of projects across the continent. The charity has earned a reputation for being financially efficient, with an average of 80% of the net funds raised reaching the field.
However, as Tusk looks forward to its 25th anniversary, and the next 25 years, poaching is once again at all time highs throughout Africa. Elephant and rhino populations are being decimated. Poachers are penetrating deeper than ever before. And areas previously considered secure, are now losing animal populations. In addition, continued development in Africa, population increase, climate change and other factors make Tusk’s mission even more critical than perhaps it was in 1990 at its formation.
And so, as an organization, we are committed to increasing the funds we can make available to local community based organizations – our partners on the ground in Africa – whose work does and will continue to have an enormous impact on the future of the people and wildlife of Africa.
