We have secured the Avro Shackleton WL795 “Rosalie” based at RAF St Mawgan and need funds to ensure her safe move and preservation
“Rosalie” is a 1953 Avro Shackleton and has been the Gate Guard at RAF St Mawgan for the past 25 years. Unfortunately she has been put up for sale by the MOD and needs to be moved to a new home to ensure she survives and is not scrapped.
We are in discussions to secure a permanent home and for her to remain in Cornwall, negotiations are progressing but we are not quite at the stage where we can tell you where.
“Rosalie” will start a new life as a figurehead for the promotion of heritage and education in Cornwall. Storytellers will visit community groups, schools and colleges to share knowledge, history and celebrate British engineering. There will be promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) to encourage understanding and enthusiasm in subjects including but not limited to aviation, marine engineering, biotech, chemical engineering, software programming, general engineering, electronics…….
When she is located in her new home it is planned to hold open days where you can get up close and find out the history of the Avro Shackleton which served in the RAF for 40 years and the very important roles they played watching over us throughout the Cold War as well as other Maritime patrol duties. As we progress we will then look at giving on board tours.
We have lots of opportunities to also volunteer. Lots of skills available for all ages – we are very much a Community based project.
We need a large amount of funds now to get her to her new home , once there the ongoing costs will be considerably less.
Time is limited
Thank you for your support
