Dr. Oblivion’s teenage daughter just started dating the alter ego of the town’s teen hero!
Dr. Oblivion’s Guide to Teenage Dating began as a black and white indy comic I made in late 2005. I knew I would love to have it in color one day, but was happy having it in black and white (as my three favorite indy books, Scud: The Disposable Assassin, Strangers In Paradise and Bone) were all in black in white.
But after hearing from fans, and having the capability to produce it in color without making the graphic novel cost an arm and a leg, luck would have it that my new (at the time) boss, Shannon O’Conner, was a colorist! (One who keeps threatening to send me hand turkeys, instead of finished pages, but thankfully, didn’t =)
With that, Dr. Oblivion began the transition to full-color! The first graphic novel will collect the first 5 issues I made of Dr. Oblivion. Dr. Oblivion’s Guide to Teenage Dating 1-3, Dr. Oblivion’s Guide to Prom (where he’s suckered into chaperoning the prom) and Dr. Oblivion’s Guide to Weekend Vacations, for a relaxing trip to the family cabin on the lake… that has a rival villain living on the other side.
Included on a few reward tiers is also the newest issue of Dr. Oblivion that will be coming out, which also serves as a #0 issue for the series, while also crossing over with my other series, “Imaginatives”! I’ve had this crossover in mind since I began both series, as eagle eyed readers of both series can see some cast members of Imaginatives in the opening panels of Dr. Oblivion #1.
I love writing and drawing Dr. Oblivion. He’s a snarky, self-involved jerk who thinks he knows what’s best for the world, yet can’t cope with his own house. He’s created an indestructible puppy that translates pain into love just to have something to identify with. This graphic novel only hold the first five issues, and there are 5 more completed, with more on the way. The graphic novel is printed on a newsprint-like paper stock to also give that old-school feel, but still looks great for color.
Thanks again for check out Dr. Oblivion and thanks to my wife Tricia for setting up the book for press and lettering it, Shannon for NOT sending hand turkeys, Tom Hutchison at Big Dog Ink for all the support, and a big BIG thanks to all the fans over the years who keep asking “when’s the next one coming out?” in anticipation and excitement… I love hearing that and I couldn’t have made it this far without all of you!
If you choose to pick up your rewards at the following shows, you get to get an extra surprise!

The risks are minimal. I have trusted printers with great timetables. The Kickstarter itself concludes during Comic Con season, so rewards will begin to mail out in July. However, if you pick up from the list of shows above, you get and extra treat =D
